PISA and the #homework: there are more effective ways

"In every PISA participating country and economy except Albania, Iceland and Slovenia, low performers spend less time on homework than better-performing students (Table 3.3). As expected, these absolute differences tend to be smaller in education systems where the average student does less homework, such as in Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden, and greater where there is more homework, as in Italy, Shanghai-China and Singapore. This suggests that there may be more effective ways for school systems to tackle low performance than by assigning more homework – which seems to widen performance differences instead". p.106
